Site Development

Your website is the first thing people see when they search for you on the web – and we all know how important first impressions can be. To make sure your first impression is a good one, we develop clean, effective websites that attract visitors and make it easy for them to do business with you. Our sites are built using the WordPress content management system so that you can easily take control of the content on your site and keep it up to date.  Every site project is bundled with WordPress training and  we provide responsive post-launch support.

Because we want your site to be an effective tool for generating business, we use a standard process for learning about what your site needs to do, what’s  important to you and how key aspects of the project will be handled. Far from slowing things down, we’ve found that working through these steps ensures that everyone is working from the same playbook and the project actually moves along more smoothly.

Our Process

1 Planning

We start with a kickoff session that gives us a high level idea of what your goals are for the site and how it fits into your business. From there, we’ll do interviews with key stakeholders and, ideally, with existing web customers to make sure that we get a complete picture. With this information in hand, we’ll present you with a plan for how we move from the concept stage to a successful launch.

2 Design

Once we have an agreed upon plan we’ll start design work. If you have a visual designer that you already are comfortable with, we’ll work with them to develop a web design that works. If you don’t have a designer at hand, we can bring in trusted designers that we’ve worked with in the past.

3 Develop

When we have a final design, development begins. We’ll code a first version of the site and then do a live walkthrough with you to make sure the static design we agreed on works in a live web page. We’ll make any corrections that are needed as a result of this review and then finish up the site and launch it.

4 Training

All of our sites use WordPress as a content management system—one of the simplest systems to edit and update.  We’ll provide training for you and your staff on how to manage your site content using WordPress. And, of course, after launching the site and training your staff we’re available to provide on-going support to you, as well.

Why WordPress?

Occasionally, clients have asked us why we prefer to base all of our sites on WordPress. We feel it offers several key advantages to site owners so, if you’re wondering why we’re such fans of WordPress, here’s why.

As we noted above, WordPress is easy for you to use. This means that you don’t need anyone else to control the content on your site – your business people can add or update content in any web browser on a page that looks much like Microsoft Word. You don’t need to ever deal with HTML, CSS or other code. Adding images and videos is just as easy as adding text and yes, that means even embedding videos from Youtube. Simply put, if you can type a letter in Word, you can manage the content of your website in WordPress. Millions of people use WordPress every day to manage sites large and small. You can too.

Excellent out of the box SEO features. While there is a lot more to SEO than just having a cleanly coded site, getting the code right will help ensure that your other SEO efforts aren’t sabotaged by a shaky technical foundation. WordPress has excellent features that help us create SEO-friendly sites. The WordPress community has also created a wide variety of plug-ins that can be used to fine-tune pages for even better SEO.

Finally, incredibly broad support. As of mid-2011 14.7% of the 1 million most-trafficked websites around were running on WordPress. This means that there are a lot of resources out there for people who use WordPress — from blogs targeted at the new user to books and sites that explore the most arcane details. Additionally, the developer community has built over 15,000 plug-ins that add a wide variety of features to WordPress.
